Mavericks (5 miles -- next to Pillar Point Marsh)
1/2 mile off shore; world famous surfing area, home to some of the largest and most dangerous waves in the world.
Fitzgerald Marine Reserve (7 miles)
Tidal pooling (ask us about low tide). Marvel at the diversity of Coastside geology and aquatic life.
McNee Ranch State Park (9 miles)
Walk miles of trails to Grey Whale Cove for breathtaking views of waves crashing on rocks, sea birds, and seals.
Montara Mountain (9 miles)
From McNee Ranch parking, cross Hwy 1 and take the trail up the mountain following the old (mostly) paved road that was Hwy 1 until 1937 when the current road over Devil’s Slide opened. From the top the view is clear to the Farallon Islands, 35 miles off shore. Along the way, observe construction of twin tunnels under the mountain.
Devil’s Slide (9 miles)
Where Hwy 1 hugs the mountain overlooking the ocean hundreds of feet below. You’ll see parts of the tunnel construction up close.
